Following an extensive search process, Preston Lions FC is pleased to announce the appointment of Alfonso Riani as Technical Director and Reserves Coach for 2016. The Club is thrilled with the appointment of such a quality individual who possesses an FFA Senior C Licence together with a number of other qualifications in sports development and fitness, both in Australia and Argentina.
A key aspect of the role is to take ownership of the direction and development of players, coaches, and coaching programs within the Club. Alfonso has the appropriate skills and experience to build and foster the necessary structures and relationships which will underpin the Club’s aspirations for the NPL in 2017 and beyond. Alfonso has played and coached predominantly in Argentina and most recently with Quilmes Athletic Club (Youth) in 2014 – 2015. Whilst the first few weeks will be a settling in period, Alfonso is keen to hit the ground running in his dual role, commencing with the establishment of a strong men’s reserves squad later this month. His focus will also be on building on the strengths of the juniors program which has undergone significant change in the past 12-24 months.
Alfonso commences his role at the end of the month and is extremely positive and enthusiastic about the opportunity, saying, “a great part of the job is teaching football excellence, nobleness, athletic skills, team spirit, character and perseverance, and for that there are fantastic possibilities with Preston Lions.”
