Preston Lions Football Club hosted an Indigenous “Gala Day” at BT Connor Reserve on Sunday 26th July 2015. The event was a celebration from the culmination of the pilot “Deadly Kick Koori Soccer Program’ that began in early June 2015. This program consisted of structured weekly qualified coaching aimed at attracting Koori kids.

PLFC is proud to have delivered with the initiative and once again partaking in promoting community awareness and social inclusion practices.

The recent “Gala Day” saw the recently acquired skills from the weekly sessions, showcased in a match scenario. Participants from both clubs involved with the program were pitted against each other, with the colours of the new PLFC kits issued on the day providing a nice fitting touch.

The successful program was a joint working partnership between Darebin Council, Banyule Council, Preston Lions FC and Heidelberg United FC. Darebin Youth Services provided the participants with transport, a BBQ meal, medals and prizes after the match.

Congratulations to everyone involved with the successful program and we look forward to bigger and better things to come in the future. From the feedback received we understand that that the participants had a fun time at BT Connor Reserve and we can’t wait to see a young Koori super star donning a PLFC shirt one day.
